Beating cam surge
Beating cam surge
I was under the assumption that NGK TR55's were a great plug; so i switched from autolite 104's to the NGK's. Well now I have cam surge so bad under 2200 that I don't even want to drive my car anymore
My gap is set to .50 on the NGK's and on the 104's I gapped to .45.
What is a plug you guy's with the bigger cams are running that gives you very little cam surge??

Re: Beating cam surge
It runs fine, just cam surge is definitely there,,,, pulls extremely hard after 2300 RPM's and if I give it gas, but if I baby it it surges horribly. so that rules out the miss. Seems it was much better with the autolite plugs in the car, I had very minimal surge..
Re: Beating cam surge
What size cam are your running? I have a Gm847 on stock heads and my car doesn't have cam surge as low as 1700. I was very surprised. Have you had the car tuned? Mine is a Madwolf mail order tune as well. Also, what gears are you running? With the 847, 4.10s are a big help.
Re: Beating cam surge
I run the ACDelco platinums in mine with not problem. The cam serge may be a result of a tuning problem. I don't have any drivability problems. That is if you consider the cc306 a heavy cam?
I saw the HP/TQ numbers after your head/cam mods. What exactly are your mods? Could you list them, I'm curious what you have.

Re: Beating cam surge
My tune is pcm4less
mods are simple ones MAC headers; no cats
thunder racing MAF
no air
cai
comp r lifters 1.5 rockers
306 cam on a 112 lsa
987 springs
lloyd elliott heads w 2.00 1.55 valves
running 93 octane
Now when I had the Autolite 104's for plugs I had slight surge, but only when I babied the gas. It seems If I drive her ***** to the wall I have no surge at all
I talked with the tuner and he said he might have to up the advance a little more but to me the more advance means less power where it makes it the most. I will be trying out a few things like replacing the injectors and the regulator to make sure she gets enough petro, but that's just throwing parts at it

Sent you a PM.
BTW, my NGK's are working great. I didn't notice any loss in performance with them.
You might want to gap yours a little narrower like you had your autolites since you are making some serious HP. Also, are you sure non of them cracked when you installed them?

IMO, you can't ever go wrong with the general. Just stick with the delcos.
Re: Beating cam surge
Sorry to be off topic. This is for grygst76. One last comment about our issue:
I'm done with this. It's not worth it.
I'm not going to pursue this any further. You have done wrong, I never did receive anything.
