Question BBK Shorty Headers?

So I was thinking about SLP headers. My friend told me it would be a pain to install. He convinced me to go with BBK. Anyone got these headers? I was just curious if you were happy with it or any feedback-

Also does BBK make parts for SLP?

Unhappy Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

Well, for one thing they're chrome. You'll be able to roast hot dogs under your hood if you run 'em. For another, the plug access sucks with them. And the third and final thing is that they choke down the tubes to fit the stock exhaust Y-pipe, which just about negates even having headers in the first place. I had a set (it was the first thing I ever bought for my car way back when), and they pain old sucked. Go with soemthing like a MAC shorty with smaller primaries (1 5/8) unless you plan on doing more things later and need the flow of the 1 3/4, in that case, go with the SLP's.

Either MAC's or SLP's are worlds apart from BBK's junk..

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

1) mine are not chrome
2) mine are not choked down to fit the stock y-pipe a larger y-pipe comes with them

i am not saying they are the best by no mean's matter of fact they are slowing down my 396 but thats me on mild combo's (meaning lower than 12:1 compression with stock heads) they are great. the slp and mac's are equal in everyway to the bbk's

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

Why would you use the stock Y-pipe?
Get BBK shorties, ceramic coated- comes with a better flowing Y-pipe. Easy install, easy enough to access plugs. I installed mine by myself, in my driveway.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

I like mine and they do not drag the ground with my springs. They came with a y pipe that was bigger than stock and I have very good numbers with them. The GMHTP lt1 shoot out was won with a car with shorties.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

I second many of the responses above, as you can get BBKs ceramic coated and they do come with a larger y pipe. I dont know why anyone would want to reuse the stock ypipe. SLPs might be large at first with 1 3/4 width, but if you plan on doing a cam and heads they will be benificial in the long run. Also look at Hooker headers.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

Well I ordered the BBK headers- It comes coated ceramic- also comes with a y-pipe. So far there is more positive than negative feedback. It seems these headers are good, depending who u ask

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

I have had BBK ceramic coated shorties on mine for about six months now and they still look like the day I installed them. These also came with 3/8 thick flanges instead of 5/16(no warping)and thicker tubing than most others.I also live in Dallas ,Texas and have to stay smog compliant.Very good fit and finish and came with a much better Y pipe than the stock one.Sure I probably give up some power compared to long tubes but with a daily driver it was not worth all the complications that go with installing them.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

Well, hopefully they've changed then since I had them installed (it WAS a long time ago). Back when I had them, the plug access was horrible (not STOCK horrible, but compared to the MAC's, they were pretty darn bad). When I measured the Y-pipe, it was the same diameter in the crossover tube as the stocker, and had some nasty kinks in it.

If they've changed, then I stand corrected. Just throwing out what I've seen for myself.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

I had them on my car for a couple years. The throttle response was much better, and there was a noticeable difference in power. I picked up about .2-.3 and about 2-3mph in the 1/4mile with them. This last summer I replaced them with Pacesetter LTs, and there was a big difference. If I had to do it all over again I wish I would have just went with LTs right from the start. Also, you can get a set of the Pacesetter LTs ceramic coated for about $400.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

I originally ordered a set of BBK's back in 1999, and all I can say about the whole mess is that the only thing that sucked worse than the workmanship was the customer service.

Re: BBK Shorty Headers?

the only thing i had done was the y-pipe welded instead of using a clamp. other than that it was perfect
