BBK Headers

What do you guys think of them? I am looking for headers for my 94 FireHawk...need some advice....something that is reasonable in price and a good fit....I am currently looking at BBk with y-pipe for $370.00...any suggestions or advice?

I like them, nice thick tubes and easy to install. You might want to read this survey before you make up your mind though..

Very nice comparison.

If you want a nice set of headers, then get the MAC headers. You can get them for $389.99 with the y-pipe. I have heard that they are much better than the BBK.

I have had my chrome BBKs for about 2-3 years now and like them. Install was pretty easy, chrome is holding up pretty good, and I saw a good increase in performance. I gained about .3 and 3mph in the 1/4 from them. Also, I paid around $375 but last I saw they were $340-350 in Jegs...I think..

i have heard they are POS. I have heard many people having to egg out the bolt holes in order to get them to fit. I also agree that you should go with mac's for that price.

Cool

I have BBK headers and I like them. I had a little bit of a problem getting them to seal, but all fine now. Definate increase in HP from the seat of the pants feel. However,if you can save up a little bit more money...get the LT's...or even the SLP shorties with the 1.75" primaries....just my .02

Yea if I were to do it all over again I would wait and save enough to get some coated LTs...If you dont buy them now you probably will be in another year or two.

The BBK's are a quality "middle of the road" header. I had Edelbrocks before I got these....I would NEVER go back to those. However...I'm in agreement with the rest of the guys. If I didn't have to at least try to comply with smog laws...I'd get a coated set of Hooker LT's in a heartbeat. I have nothing against the BBK's....they're solid...but if you can get away with it; you'll be really happy with the power the Hooker LT's give.

Good Luck!

The Edelbrock problem:

I'm not saying that they're worthless, and for the price they are a decent mod. The major problems that I had with them was in quality, though. The steel they're made with is very thin stuff...I really expected more. The model that I had were "Ceramic Coated" which was OK...but it seemed like a baked-on powder that didn't last all that long, It rubbed off in many spots and I don't know how much of it just burned/blew off. Also, where the primaries enter the flange to meet the Y-pipe, the pipes are crimped down into a triangle-shape...I'm sure it hurt the flow. And there was the cracking around the circumference of the flange where the primaries collected, as well as in the angled areas of the primaries, so that fixing them with a welder was pretty much an impossibility.

I probably seem down on them now, because I'm much happier with my BBK's. The Edelbrocks are OK for the money, AND they're smog-legal which is a plus...but I can't say that I'd recommend them if there was any other alternative.
