Balencer Hub Bolts ?

Hey guys I have a quick question regarding my balancer hub. Well some how the bolt holes on my balancer hub have gotten stripped so what I have done is drilled and taped all three hole from 7/16 to 1/2 inch. My question is, is this going to mess with the balance of thing or should I be fine?

You'll be fine; that small weight difference amount won't be a problem.

If you want a second opinion, weight a stock bolt and the replacement and see the difference. Or you could weigh all three Vs all three to get the total weight difference.

Not sure how sensitive the Post Office scales are, but they'd be worth a try if you don't have a scale.

Don't fret, I'm the same way too, meticulous on a lot of things that other simply skip over. Hell, I've even called Hendrick MotorSports (of NSACAR fame) on questions I've had.

Once you have the numbers, you can run them by a machine shop that you trust - I recommend one that specializes in racing engines - and see what the balancing guy says.

Remember, it's pretty easy to make any needed balance adjustment right now if it's called for. I confident that no mod will be needed though.

It shouldn't make a difference, but if you're that worried about it you can always buy a new hub.

Think your way through it. The closer to the axis of rotation, the less effect the weight will have. As long as all the bolts are the same weight, it would not affect the balance as long as the arms on the hub were symmetrical.... but they aren't. They are unevenly spaced, meaning the 3 bolts will not be evenly spaced. But then the stock bolts were not evenly spaced either. The tiny weight difference of the 1/2" bolts compared to the 7/16" bolts is not going to be noticeable, when its located to close to the centerline of the crank.

And... its not a "balancer", its a harmonic damper.

If you are concerned, have the damper/hub assembly neutral balanced. That's what the holes around the edge of the damper are for.

LOL, I see you do the same thing I often do, since I feel it's best to call things as they are. Seems some get offended by being corrected though. Oh well . . .
