Angry Balancer squeeking? It's dancing all around...

I noticed an annoying squeeking on my car a few days ago... I got under and noticed my balancer (or the big pulley that comes straight from the crank) was dancing and the thing (what do you call this thing) that gives tension to the belt was squeeking and possibly going to brake soon... can this happen?

If that is dancing around TIGHTEN IT! Sorry but you don't want that thing flying off. There should be 3 bolts on there. Use locktite red on the bolts and tighten them down until the balancer is pressed on good and square. Shouldn't have any more probs

The damper is made from two concentric steel rings, with a hard rubber ring between them. It possible for the rubber ring to crack, allowing the outer part of the pulley to wobble. Check that, after you make sure the three bolts are tight.

Well, the center is not dancing... just the outside ring I'm guessing I need a new balancer then... and where can I buy the belt tension thing? I don't know the name of it... the balancer's dancing must have broken it and it squeeks a lot

Jegs, Summit, and Northern auto parts all three sell a stock replacement "Pioneer" brand balancer.

Thanks! Do you know what you call the thing that gives tension to the belt right besides the balancer? :S

Drowned;
If you can stand a used one and a little wait for shipping I have one from a 96 85K car i will give you if you pay the shipping. Came off a running car and seems solid. No clue what it would take to ship it on the weight. I also have a hub same deal if yours got jacked. I am in the 76035 zip.
