Balancer hub bolt hole stripped, what do I do?

On my 92 corvette one of the three balancer hub bolt holes has a stripped. Anyone know of a way to fix it without pulling the hub? Pulling the hub is a nightmare on a vette, and I'd like to avoid it if at all possible.

I have seen 1/2 oversize bolts for oil pan plugs that are stripped, is there anything like that for my application?

Getting a tap and die in there is impossible, as it using a nut on the back on the back side of the hub. Any idea's?

I suggest tapping the hole out even if that means pulling the hub. But if you decide to try the bolt with a nut behind it be sure to use grade 8 nut and bolt and make sure the nut does not hit the opti. The hub is really close to the opti in places.

Good luck.

It is impossible to do it on the car because I have a corvette. The front frame rail on the vette makes it impossible. It also makes the hub extremely difficult to remove.

A nut and botl will not work. If you manage to get it to clear the opti (doubtful) it will throw the weight of the balancer off.

All I can say is there IS a way to fix this, meaning tap the hole with the balancer on or off. I guess my advice is to do it. IF IT WAS EASY, THEN EVERYONE WOULD BE DOING IT!

Remove hub.

Helicoil bad bolt hole or buy new hub.

Reinstall hub.

Not much choice as I see it.
