Remember that the LT1 is neutrally balanced in the front and doesn't use a balancer. It is a harmonic damper. Most of the SBC's are externally balanced. Other than that, it would physically go on there and fit. It just wouldn't work because of the balance issues.

The LT1 balancer is also a serp belt pulley. What would you use for the pulley?

A standard SBC damper will work - Pioneer makes nice aftermarket standard and performance series dampers that are affordable, your local machine shop can supply them.

I set it up that way on my Super Stock LT1 with no problems. Part of the good news is that you can use an early timing pointer and a small block crank trigger right out of the box.

Not true. The only small block that was externally balanced was the 400. It used a special harmonic balancer with a counter balance weight added along with a matching couterweighted flywheel. All other SBC were internally balanced.
Even though the newer SBCs (including the LT1) need a special flywheel with balancing weight due to the elimination of the external crankshaft counterweight with the one piece rear main seal, it is still considered internally balanced.
