bad thermostat?

basically my car has never had over heating problems. i would sit in summer traffic in arizona at just over 185 degrees. i did a cam swap, the car ran a bit hotter, put a new a/c compressor in, car would never get over 210 even sitting in standstill 112 degree traffic. lately now with no a/c on or with on the car will get to and sit at 235 degrees. before when i had no a/c it would hang out at 185 or lower just driving around on the highway. i am not sure what it is. there is no air in the system i am sure of that. i have a manual fan switch that is always on. i am thinking maybe a bad thermostat? what does everyone think?

oh yes, and the car has a 160 degree thermostat that certainly probalby has at least 100k miles on it that i know of. car currently has 136k miles.

Re: bad thermostat?

You can remove the thermostat and test it in a pan of water. Make sure you have not sucked up any debris in front of the radiator.

Re: bad thermostat?

isn't the thermostat designed to fail in the open position??

i say check it..

but it could be that you're waterpump is failing or that you have a blockage in your radiator.

Re: bad thermostat?

Yeah check to see if she ate something, these cars are bottomfeeders. Also check to see if your primary fan is still working, the motor may have taken a dump. (I got a couple of extras sitting around )
