Bad pressure plate?

What are the symptoms of a pressure plate starting too go bad? A local Tranny shop told me mine is starting to go bad and the major indicator is the clutch pedal being very stiff when engaging the clutch. Is this true? The clutch pedal is stiff but I thought that was the way it was suppose to be. I don't notice any clutch slipping or popping out of gear.

Thanks

Yes indeed, The pressure plate going bad can cause the pedal pressure to increase a lot. My pressure plate was colapsing in on itself, and the pedal hurt to puch with bare feet over time. At first i didnt think much of it, cause the girl who had my car before me had it changed at around 50,000 miles, and i like a stiff pedal. Around 80,000 it became known that something was up, when it got to the point where only i could really drive the car cause it was so unique. Even then i didnt worry about it, untill the clutch started to slip at around 90,000 miles. I babied it and got it to 94,770 when the clutch slipping was out of hand. Hope that helps you out.
