Bad O2's cause the car to backfire and run like complete trash?

Bad O2's cause the car to backfire and run like complete trash?
Well the Z is acting up again... The car has a new Opti and a list of new parts but it did fail emmisions and has sat for awile. Now after running from a cold start within minutes the SES light comes on and the car backfires a little. Do you think this is a result of bad o2 sensors and or a clogged cat from those of you that have experienced this? Thanks
