bad o2?

my friend has a 383 ta, and he's ran leaded race gas through it a few times, after every time he uses it the car runs like crap until he changes his plugs. i was wondering if there is a way to check if he has bad o2's can i tell on my datamaster?

Re: bad o2?

What do the plugs look like when he pulls them out?

Since you mention DataMaster, can we assume it is OBD-I?

A little leaded fuel should not seriously damage the O2 sensors. They are rated for 50 hours exposure to lead. But with enough exposure they will not respond correctly. I don't think that lead poisoning of the sensors would be immediately obvious in a scan. The resonse times may slow down a bit, or the mV readings may lose accuracy, but there is no way to measure sensor "switching" rates or cross-counts in OBD-I that I am aware of.

Needing to replace the plugs would indicate that he is either running lean and burning off the electrodes, or running rich and fouling them. That condition mine be apparent with a DataMaster scan. Just running leaded fuel shouldn't damage the plugs.... that's all I run in my car.
