Bad MAP Sensor?? Help!

Exclamation Bad MAP Sensor?? Help!

Can you clean it?

I pulled mine out and it was filthy. Car has been running like crap lately!!

I pulled sensor out while car running and car shut off.
Is it supposed to do that??

You could possilbly clean it. Be gentle. I would imagine it would be hard for the computer to manage sensing the load on the engine with the sensor removed, not to mention the vacuum leak from pulling it out.

There is a little accordian-like seal with it. Is that intact?

Accordion Seal

It was intact but all bunched up on one side.

I'm going to pull it back out and clean it with soap and water??

Does that stem valve on teh sensor itself serve any purpose ?? I tried forcing air inside it and no go. Seemed blocked off, or should it be that way??

Basically, it is a vacuum sensor. There is probably a diaphragm or something inside it, so don't poke way inside too much.

Stem valve? Do you mean the part the goes into the manifold?

The part that goes into the manifold is where it picks up the vacuum. The sensor would be a sealed unit except for the hole in that part of it.
