Second of all, I know there is not much room down there to do anyting, was just a simple question and wondered if anyone else had thought doing the same thing. The person who had this car before me didnt take care of it at all and I am having to fix all of his STUPID screw ups. Now, for Javier, thank you for the POSITIVE feedback.

Stock opti... 196k miles

When it does go though, I'm definitely going to look into the coil-per-plug conversion(I think its the LTCC set up).

Welcome Mandy, I'm pretty sure that MBA used to have a dress up piece that covered the opti so I would say that its possible.

Wait till you go too fast in a deep puddle after it rains. "Limp home mode" aint no fun.

I've taken off my water pump a few times to get to the opti, then again to get to the leaky water pump/cam seal.

keep out of the deep puddles and you will be fine for a long time. it is a dumb design, but it's what we have to deal with

Actually, the concept is brilliant but the execution is not.

Re: Bad on GM!!!

Wow, you guys have a lot of miles on yours. I thought that my 75k was a lot and mine is an everyday driver. Anyway, it seems to be running great now, my roomate has a fab going on right now for the "splashguard" piece to go around the opti, and I agree, the coil pack set up per plug is a much better idea. I know a guy with a '02 Z and he has the coil packs and no problems. Anyway, thanks guys for being so helpful.

Re: Bad on GM!!!

To keep coolant from leaking out of the WP weephole onto the opti, I jammed an upsided down plastic "Y" fitting into the weephole and plugged one arm of the Y. Then I ran rubber hose from the other arm down away from the opti. I used zip ties to keep the hose from getting tangled up in the serp belt. Theory is that this will route any small leaks away from the Opti.

I also used a silicone sealant between the opti body and cap.

I have no idea if this is worth doing, since I had the Opti and WP out anyway, it wasn't much work.

Re: Bad on GM!!!

You should also replace(at least check) the opti vent system when replacing the opti. often these are broken or clogged which prevents them from doing their job. Most often the small check valve is bad/clogged. You can also bring the inlet from the vent harness inside the car instead of the intake tract. ALSO check the opti plug for any funkiness as there also known for collecting moisture!

Many regularly spin them to 7k. I spin my dynaspark to the limit of the pcm regularly too - no issues thus far.
