Bad Cap and Rotor?
Bad Cap and Rotor?
Ok I know everyone loves opti questions
.... but here we go.
So my friends snap on scan tool was saying:
low cam resolution signal
and cyl 2 missfire
(generic scanner was saying random/multiple cyl missfire)
So I figured the opti needed to be replaced and I did with a new Delco unit(The first one I bought was bad after I exchanged it the second one started right up). So afterwards the SES light was out and I drove a couple miles the next day and I started to get the same problem (car drives fairly well in low gear but when going to 5th/6th its almost impossible the missfire becomes sooo bad!)
The scan tool now reads cylinder #2 missfire and doesnt Have the Low resolution code anymore.
I've done the following:
-Put 3 different plug wires on the #2 cyl.
-checked the firing order on the cap 7 or 8 times.
-checked compression on #2 (19X psi)
-Put a new injector on #2 and installed and new FPR since I noticed the diaphragm was busted.
An friend of mine is a chevy tech and he told me it sounded like a bad injector or a bad cap and he has a ton of LT1 experience.
Anyone else know anything to try if a new cap doesn't solve the problem? ugh I'm running out of ideas!

yeh sorry, I pulled it out and replaced it after I checked the wire the first time it looked tan and mostly dry a little fuel on it tho.
After I was still scratching my head I pulled it out again to test compression and put a new plug in it.... idk gonna put a dist. cap on it tomorrow morning since im off work and see if that does anything, I might try switching to a stock coil first, maybe the MSD coil is causing an arc inside the cap, but I would think the ECM would tell me that more then just 1 cylinder was misfiring if that were the case
