Bad brakes after cutting brake line

Over a year ago I accidentally severed my brake line by the rear caliper and I replaced it. Ever since, I my brakes are not like they used to be. They seem more stiff and require a lot of force for not as much stopping power. I bled the line at that point but I read somewhere that I had to have the system bled by a mechanic with some special machine or something. Anyway, what should I do to get my brakes back to normal? Thanks.

did you bleed the ABS as well as the lines? if not try that first.

Is that something relatively simple that I can do myself?

There is a machine the dealers use to do this, but it can be done manually without it. I think the procedure is in the Chilton's manual. If not, let me know and I may be able to get the instructions from the Gm service manual.

just bleed the ABS module the same way you do your normal brakes, just use the bleeders on the ABS first, then do the ones on your calipers starting at the right rears.

So I have to bleed the brakes at every wheel?

Do the 2 bleeders on the ABS Module first... then starting at the back do all 4 calipers... starting the farthest from the Maseter Cylinder.
