bad bearings??

what does a bearing problem sound like?? from what I have read it sounds like a very loud knocking sound. But is it a consistent sound or just a clunk sound everyonce in a while? I'm really worried something happened to this motor and I just finished it a few days ago....

Re: bad bearings??

if you really spin one bad, like i did at 60 on the highway.... It's like taking a firecracker, a sledgehammer, a gun, something really freakin loud, and doing it repeatedly and IT'S VERY CONSISTENT (usually), like every time that cylinder moves it knocks, also if it is bad you'll sometimes be able to 'feel' the engine tremor as the crank collides with the rod or w/e.

but, if it's a sharper knocking check your valvetrain, lifters position on the valve stems, pushrods, check your torque converter, t/c bolts backing out make some %$%@#% scary noises too

EDIT: kep forgetting stuff, a bearing issue will usually coincide with like no oil pressure

Re: bad bearings??

i spun all of mine abnd broke em into pieces, then heated the motor up soo good that it turned the mobil one to sludge...sounded like a bucket of bolts rattling around in the pan with loud knocking/ticking and an occasional squeak, still made it home 50 miles though

well the oil pressure has been consitent the whole time...of course thats only going by the cluster. it was just at idel and I heard a clunk! and I would hear it every once in a while. maybe its just my exhaust banging on the car or something...god I hope it is

Re: bad bearings??

Oh thank god! I went back to my parents house(my place doesn't have a garage so my car is over there) And I started it up and looked under the car to see where the sound was coming from. Thank god it was the exhaust....my y-pipe is bolted to my cat and the bolts loosened up from the vibration and started banging the bottom of the car. gotta get some locking washers on that thing.

I was going to adjust the rockers while it was running but I guess my battery sat for too long and died on me
