Bad Alternator Question

So I think my alternator is going out, not the whole thing, just the bearings in the pulley. Can I just swap them out, or do I need to change the whole thing?

Re: Bad Alternator Question

It can't hurt to try but more often than not, it won't work. If you plan on replacing it, then you won't get dissappointed when the bearing thing doesn't work. BTW, buy only OEM and not one from Autozone or Advance (lifetime warranty doesn't mean crap if the car never runs).

If you have a large stereo or amp, you may want to step up the current above 140.

Above 140, the only good supplier I know of is Powermaster. But they are pricey. Hey but I'm to poor to buy cheap.

Re: Bad Alternator Question

I don't need anything above the stock alternator. I still have the Bose cassette deck.

Re: Bad Alternator Question

You can get one from GM its only about $40 more, just ask for the 94 B4C police package alternator for the Camaro.

The 9C1 caprice one works too but it'll only attach by 2 bolts cuz the third bolt hole isn't there & the alternator back section has to be flipped 90* for it to become the same, the 9C1 ones have a smaller diameter pulley also which helps with charging even at low RPMs since Impalas/Caprice 9c1s idle at 550rpm & have their cherries on at the same time, all radios, big dome light etc... you get the picture LOL.

BTW I like that metal sludge chick of the month there, mmmm... I like chicks like that in particular, its the look! Bah noone cares lol just thought I'd mention it LOL.

Re: Bad Alternator Question

I got a quote of $212 from my local dealership today. I called one local place, but all they had was remanufactured alts. I might have to give Jason or Dal a call, though I'd like to get it done tommorow. Anyone have any experience with Napa and that sort of place?
