Backfiring through intake

I just got done installing the hotcam kit and when I started it up it backfired through the intake so I shut it off. I tried starting it again and it won't start.

I am pretty sure a couple of my rockers are adjusted too tight because on a couple of them I adjusted and then felt the pushrod loose so I went and adjusted the again ( which I now realize isn't right).

Is there anything else that would cause backfiring through the intake besides having the rockers too tight?

When I put the timing chain on the cam gear was at 6 and (with the dowel pin in the 3 O'clock position) and the crank gear at 12.

Well then the timing sounds fine. Go back and readjust the rockers. Did you follow the tech part of shoebox's website for adjustment of the rockers?

Stick a battery charger on it then try to fire. When my battery gets weak it has done this a couple times. Still can't figure out why.

Re: Backfiring through intake

Fixed my problem, I readjusted my rockers and it still backfired but through the exhaust. I then checked my plug wires and I had a couple mixed up.

The cam runs pretty good on the stock tune but I can tell there is definately more power left in it. I'm going drive it around a little bit and then look at my fuel trim and knock retard etc. with the Tech 2.
