backfiring/popping while decelerating
Sorry didn't mean to sound ungratful for the suggestions, it's just that everytime I post a legitimate question here it seems everyone either goes off topic or hijacks your thread etc. My shifter does not move, it's a automatic, I do have poly engine and trans mounts, so that probably don't help much, my LCA's are stock but I will look at them anyways. I really think it is tune related though.
I believe you are right about the tune. I'll be taking mine in for a dyno tune in a few weeks to see if they can do something. I suspect MAP programming is necessary.
The more you make your car easier to breath (intake and exhaust) the greater the effect on scavenging. That will have some effect.
Also, our computers are somewhat slow (I wouldn't own a 1995 PC). So, there is also a possibility that the time it takes for the computer to react to decel may keep the injectors on for a split-second which would cause the unburnt fuel to go into the headers.
The dyno place has a wide-band that I'll be watching closely as they reprogram.

I get the same pop when coming off of wot. i also dont have any cats bullet mufflers true dual and 3" mandrel piping dumped before the axle
o i forgot to mention...... it also belches a nice 1 - 1 1/2 foot flame when it makes the pop

I think the statement about unburned fuel is the correct answer. My street LT1 has a more severe pop on decel when it is in open loop (cold) and is much less frequent/severe once I go to closed loop. I personally like it - it reminds me why I drive a V8. Assuming that the car is running properly (which I believe mine is), a more restrictive muffler will make this less noticable.
My road race LT1 throws fire out the dump under the car under decel when it pops and I think it's pretty cool.

The back fire is a result of timing and fuel. Some people like the popping and some don't. I can set it either way, it's all in the tune.
KeithO- In a roade race application, it's better to tune the backfire out of the ECU. This will help your fuel milage, and possibly add up to a couple of extra laps between pit stops.

526 SS 96 - I agree that a finer ECU tune would reduce this behavior but in my race class, touching the computer is a no-no. Like I said, I don't mind, it think it's kinda cool.
...in Camaro Mustang Challenge, we have to run restrictor plates to get DOWN to max. power and the Mustang guys have to do head work, etc. to get UP to max. power plus they get a 50lb weight advantage. ...I love to bring this up to Mustang guys. In a "stock" road race series, we have to dumb down the f-bodies to make it fair for the Mustang guys. If a Mustang guy gets annoyed, reciting this fact usually quiets him down. Hahahahaha.
