Re: backfire / missfire

I spent about 5 hours changing the plugs & wires today. pain in the *ss. However this made no difference still popping threw the intake .
Do you guys think I should replace the ICM or just take my car to the specialist and have the
opti replaced ????

Mine is doing the same thing....did plugs, wires coil and just did the opti....it revs clean now but runs like *** I think we got the opti in the wrong slot on back.,tearing it back apart in the next day or 2..

Re: backfire / missfire

Please let me know what you find out....mine is doing the same thing at wot...car runs perfect everywhere else ...but it acts like it's hitting a rev limiter at 5k I had my buddy who owns a small shop put it on a scanner (obd1) and he said my maf sensor is maxing out at 3k rpm....I have in the last few hundreds miles..new...plus,wires,coil,MSD optispark...my car runs like a beast until it backfires....I'm just gonna change the maf,I guess but don't know if this will fix my problem...good luck!

Re: backfire / missfire

So I replaced the ICM with a new OEM from the parts store same results as before .....
I used....NGK T55 plugs
jegs 8mm plug wires
OEM ICM from auto zone
A six pack of beer and a bottle of aleve for the headache I got from changing the plugs and wires
as shoebox suggested earlier its most likely the opti at 68,385 my opti is on the way to its death bed
