backfire helppp!!!
backfire helppp!!!
ok i just installed my airfoil thats been sitting in my room for weeks...got it on and hooked everything back up....took it around the block and got on it a little. ran fine good as ever...drove another block and it started backfiring on me really bad and it was really loud high pitched backfires kinda like a firecracker.....extreme loss of power really rough idle..and hard to get started...anybody know what it is or may be???
hey
You sure you hooked everything back up. I have made that mistake before. There are about 4 connections to the air intake line that need to be hooked back up. If nothing else changes I would make sure nothing was overlooked.
well i went out and started it and it idled fine...but i gave it some gas and there is a major miss that wasnt there before...also it smells like its running really rich...then after a reved it up a few times it had a really rough idle....everything i unpluged is hooked up i also smell antifreeze and seen it is leaking just a little bit but its leaking on the opti...could this be why there is a miss after it idles and the water is flowing and the little bit that and has droped on the opti??????
The hole for the IAC passage is in between the two throttle bores. Some air foils may block it. IAC is not a "sensor".... it a tiny motor in the throttle body base plate that opens and closes the IAC passage to control engine idle.
But with the major problems you are now experiencing, its not likely a problem with the IAC. If it isn't the coolant dripping on the Opti, is it possible you damaged the MAF sensor when you were handling it, or that you reinstalled it facing in the wrong direction?

good advise so far.
make sure there are no tears in the elbow at all. It is pretty common for the to tear when forcing it on the TB and over the waterneck.
Might try and spay some carb cleaner on the MAF and make sure it is facing the right way as mentioned.
Make sure all of these clamps are tight from MAF to TB.

ok well i think i found the problems...i did have a tare on my elbow and i seeled it up for now....also when i did the tb bypass the one that leads from the radiator is spitting out a little cooland from a crack in the nipple so i seeled that up and pluged the end....ill wait till morning and see how she runs and see if those were it....you guys think they were???
I would not recommend carb cleaner for the MAF sensor. Its way too harsh. GM doesn't even recommend using carb cleaner on the TB, because it will take the "anti-coking" coating off the blades. For the MAF, your dealing with thin film resistors. Use only "electronics" cleaners.
When you did the throttle body coolant bypass, didn't you connect the driver's side hose to the steam pipe from the back of the head, on the passenger side? Where did you "plug the end"?

when i did the bypass i connected the hoses together so it runs from the radiator to the back of the head...the problem is fluid keeps surging out of the nipple on the botom of the tb were is that coming from??? and if i block it off would that back it up somewere else
