Back pressure question
Back pressure question
I just put in the new motor. CC 305 cam, ported heads, headers, valve springs, 1.6 race rockers and had the computer conversion OBD 1 tuned by madwolf. I have the exhaust open at the end Y-pipe. I have a 2500 stall with a 2.73 gear. Will me not having any backpressure cause my car to fill like it has NO power what so ever. thats what it feels like. I have no SES light on. It just feels like it is making a lot of noise but isnt going anywhere. Will not having any backpressure cause this. If so, please explain.

If anything you would gain a few HP with an open Y-pipe.
As far as exhaust systems are concerned, you don't want any backpressure.
But, you want to keep pipe size reasonable to keep velocity/scavenging up.

If your car isn't tuned for that, it won't run optimally. I ran w/ my LT open headers for a day and it was SLOW, i then proceeded to hook up my exhaust and it picked up a HUGE amount of power over straight headers. I'm thinking you might be in the same boat. Hook up a 3" exhaust to the back of that y pipe and a high flowing muffer, like a hooker catback, and you will be happy.
I thought maybe it was the gear too., but the car wasnt that slow with the stock engine and that gear. But now, its Really really slow. Maybe if hooking up this exhaust doesnt work, i will find someone to scan it for me. Thanks for the help everyone.
