AutoZone Opti Parts? More than one Model?

Ok guys on a previous thread this guy stated there was a complete Opti replacement at AutoZone. He even gave the part number... it was a long thread and finally someone called Autozone just to find out it was the cap and Rotor right?? Well just now I came across this other part at AutoZone.com. I did Cut and paste from their website, and this is not the same part number by the way.... see for your self:

Home > Shopping > Pre Part Type Selected > Parts Results

DISTRIBUTOR CAP

WELLS DISTRIBUTOR CAP for a 1995 CHEVROLET CAMARO

Unit Price: $119.99
Core Value*: $0.00
Part No.: DR2026
Weight: 1.443 lbs.
Warranty:
Availability: Online: Ships within 2 business days
Store: Not Available
Note:

NOT INDIVIDUALLY PACKAGED. SOLD AS PART OF CAP & ROTOR KIT

*** This is not the same Part Number Mentioned in the previous post and I wonder.... just Wonder.... if there was some true about the previous thread. The one I saw online did not mention cap and rotor at this one does, It seems to me as if there are more parts than we know ofl...... Anybody care to inquire with AutoZone?? I am in Hawaii .... no AutoZone Store here... that I know of.

I believe from the other thread (which now makes my head hurt ) the part referred to was the opti unit. Whether it comes with cap and rotor was the debate. (it apparently came with cap and rotor for at least one person)

The part you found is the cap and rotor only, which has been available like that all along.

IMO, just get a new GM one from Jason or Dal and be done with it.

yep they sell more than one model..... this one is just cap and rotor. I dont know about the other post about a complete Opticrap... everyone in that thread is still bitchin and moaning about it. I would just go to Autozone and ask to see one if they are complete I would get it if not well I guess not.

I still want to tank the guy in the other thread who mentioned AutoZone though... No one else seems to realize that without anyone of us at least tryin to help others (not matter how unsucessful that person may be) this board wouldnt even exist...

Thanks buddy... If you hear of anything else pass the word and I will check up on it.. with my own eyes (no ofense intended)

I didnt see anywhere on autzone.com where they listed a cap and rotor included with the opti. I've also called them 4 times now, and had them check stock once last week. They supposedly opened the box (dont know since I wasnt physically there), and the guy told me that only the cap and rotor was not in the box - p/n 30-1833. I mentioned this in the other thread a couple of days ago - you defintely werent overlooked.

Anyway, NeoSNK, let us know what you receive.

Thanks

Actually, all I've been trying to do in the other thread, is duplicate the efforts (for everyones benifit), not burst anyones bubble. I've been very forthcomming with information about the calls and the storevisit I made while trying to duplicate his efforts. Through my research, I personally dont think there's been a storewide change. I may be right, I may be wrong, but I dont know why that makes me the badguy...

FYI - InjectedSS's local Utah warehouse store - 801-532-1919
They dont have stock and will have to order. The store he placed the 1st order with is (801) 255-5585, which doesnt have stock either.

Dang!!! I missed it! I missed it!!!

Why does the Cap and Rotor from Autozone part Number DR2026 weights over one pound?? 1.443lbs to be exact?? I guarantee you there has got to be more than just cap and rotor unless there is an awfull amount of metal in our optis..

How big are those things anyway?? when I replaced my water pump and looked at my opti... I remember.. it was big enough to weight that much complete but cap and rotor alone??

It also comes with the plastic piece which has the plug housing. Besides the cap is a fairly thick piece and probably is at or over a pound. If it was everthing it would be closer to 5lbs. I'm guesstimating since I walked out to the garage and pickedup the box that I have the cap, rotor, and opti in (transplanted in the same box - I didnt buy them that way).

<edit> Just checked my receipt from 26 June for the cap and rotor, and DR2026 is the p/n. You definetly wont get the the opti using that p/n.

THink ifyou order one prepaid from Auto Zone, get it when it comes in and it isnt the full opti, would they refund your money b/c it isnt what you wanted? I would think so. So it would be worth a shot to save $70.

Injected SS went to another store and bought the same one, got another full opti jsut to prove it.

Wont happen until you get someone from Autozone to confirm a permanent change in the P/N or packaging. I'm going through this right now with a unit I purchased from a local store late last month. At this point, you can return what you received, but you wont get any credit for a missing cap and rotor.

I addressed that in the other tread as well - It was a different store, but they both use the same local warehouse that I listed above. Thats very different from getting that item accross the country from a location that uses a different distribution facitly or manufactures site. So it still doesnt prove that autozone is has permenently changed the contents for this p/n.

Point being - check for yourself before buying, especially if your on a tight timeframe... You may be better off buying from Jason or Dal if you're not willing to pay the full price for the indivual parts from autozone. If you do try autozone for the complete unit, I'd defintely try buying from the same locations as Injected, since you'll probably be getting something off the same production run....

Good luck all.

Could this be the case of a "smart" Autozone employee who happens to "forget" to put back the optical part in the box with the Cap and Rotor??

Just my thoughts...
