Re: autozone ICM???

I have been running a Wells brand one from Autozone for 7 years. I just had mine tested last week because I thought I had a problem with it, but it was tested good. What would kill one. Bad Luck Maybe

I stay as far away from anything that moves or electricity runs through it as far as getting anything from autozone. U will hear both sides but i would recommend against it. I do this for a living and seen way to many bad parts from there.

Re: autozone ICM???

When it comes to ignition you do not want to cheap out on them. As this saying goes "LT1s are spoiled girls, you cant buy the cheap stuff and expect them to be happy". Go out and buy a factory Delco unit or find a used one on the forum for even cheaper. If you do buy an Autozone you cant expect it to last so your the fool wasting your time and money and will have to buy the proper one later.

Re: autozone ICM???

The Autozone one is more than fine. Just an FYI, while working at a GM dealership, it became pretty damn obvious that the Delco stuff is not any higher quality and it's seriously time to stop kidding yourself. Many, many, many Delco filters are rebranded Premium Guards, which are cheap *** China made filters. I'm certain many other parts follow suit as I've had just as many parts failures with Delco parts as I have Jim Billy Bob's Ignition Warehouse parts.

Don't waste your money, just buy the AutoZone part.

As for what can kill it, heat is the #1 issue. As stated, space the ICM away from your head with a few washers.

How do you know they're rebranded filters? I'd like to be able to tell next time I need a filter.....

Re: autozone ICM???

Exact same part numbers on the packaging. The Premium Guard filter for a Silverado was 5314. We got a shipment of Delco air filters in. They weren't in boxes, they were wrapped in plastic. They had Delco 1518 stickers on the packaging with the part number 5314 printed on the filters themselves, as well as made in China. I'm not sure if it was something that was a one time deal or what, I left the dealership shortly after. Needless to say, I was not impressed in the least. These filters had almost half the pleats of the normal Delco and an incredibly flimsy gasket.

Also, Premium Guard produces Purolator filters. Check their part numbers for yourselves. The Purolator will always have the same Premium Guard part number with 2 added digits.
