Automatic Transmission Question
Basically the way I understand the computer tells the car when to shift gears and at what speed. So if buying a camshaft you would really be able to take advantage of the added rpm when you were in 4th?
I don't have an auto so I am unfamiliar with modifying the computer to change the shift points. I suppose you could max out rpms (tell pcm to shift at highest rpm still making good power) in 3rd and 4th without drivability issues? Or does the pcm change the shift settings for WOT (opend loop) and closed loop? That would be nice so that you could retain gas mileage and not have to rev the **** out of the motor to make it shift.
right now my friend is deciding on a cam that makes good power to 5900 (better torque for most of the powerband) and one that makes good power to 6200 (10hp more at peak). He is thinking that unless he gets a high stall or gears he will not benefit from the extra rpm and therefore the added torque would be better used. He wants to keep the stock stall/3.23
It is just going to be a dd for him no track plans etc.
He doesn't want to have to rev really high to be in overdrive on the highway etc. Should he just get the smaller cam and keep the stock shift points? It is the 4L60e by the way

Re: Automatic Transmission Question
Ok. I am looking for a more informed response on how to modify the shift points and its affect on driveability. I don't think he wants fot set 1st gear to shift at 6k. I am not looking for cam advice
