Automatic or Manual?
I'm gonna be getting a z28, probably a 96, but i'm not sure whether to go with a manual or automatic...i mean, i love shifting with a manual tranny, but i can find the automatics for about a grand or more cheaper. is there any speed difference? if so, how much...im also planning on either putting in a supercharger or turbocharger. which would be better and what kind? One more question, anyone of any good body kits besides the xenon and wings west ones? or of any custom body shops in southern cali? thanks for anyone's help...i appreciate it
If you know how to shift, there's a difference. Plus you can run steeper gears like 4.10s without any problems to the car's gas mileage and driveability (I get 300 to a tank with my M6 w/ 4.10s). You also have more gear selection to take off from, plus it's tons more fun!!
Take it from me, I've gone from a 700R4 to a TH-350 to finally an M6...and I'll NEVER EVER go back...

i agree if you're going to get a camaro you have to get the 6speed. auto are just to boring to drive and i think if you add a blower or turbo you'll have better luck with the manual reliability wise. just add a short throw shifter right away because the stock shifter is like shifting a semi. (way too long)

If I play with a heavy foot, it's like 250-260...we'll see what happens to my mileage when I do heads & cam next weekend...
I've had an M6 f-body (98 Formula) and two A4 f-bodies (95TA, 95 Formula) and I like the fact that the A4 is so easy to be consistent in the quarter mile. And typically the A4 cars run better ETs, you have to be a very good driver to consistently run in the 13s in a bone stock M6 LT1 f-body, while with the A4 cars, it's a piece of cake (as long as the weather isn't too hot and the car is not out of tune)
So basically you're saying automatics are for novices who really can't drive and want to go fast without learning how to drive...? I'm not flaming you, but I don't think that's a good reason for getting an auto...I've become a much better driver with my car since I swapped it to a manual, and not only because it challenged me in ways that an automatic couldn't, but also the fact that manual transmission cars are more versatile and when driven by a skilled person, can do so much more than a automatic. IMO, if you're looking for a cruiser, buy an auto. If you're looking for a toy, buy a manual.
Pardon my ignorance i have been browsing board for awhile now planning to get a black camaro z28 manual between year 94-95. I see people putting M6 on their sigs and everything but never knew what it ment. Is that the code the code for the stock manual tranny, if not what is the stock manual tranny that comes with fbodies? Some one want to fill me in?

How do you even get that much???? I get around 220 at best.
Is yours an automatic? Because mine's a 6-speed. When my car was an auto, it got between 180-220 miles to a tank. Once I swapped it to a manual, and even with my 4.10's, I average 250-260 a tank and as much as 300 miles if it's highway driving...gotta love those 2 extra gears!!
EDIT: I just read you have a manual...maybe it needs a tune-up?

I've owned (2) 4 speed cars and 2 automatics (not including my current one) and have raced and autocrossed them all. Actually, I preferred the automatic in this car.
If you drive mine 60 miles a day round trip to work in traffic that's sometimes not so friendly to clutches, an auto is a pleasure. I'm waiting now for my 2600 stall Vigilante converter and new transmission to arrive to see how much more fun it can be!
