20 psi at 700 rpm
When really hot drops to about 18 at 700 rpm.

Stays around 40-45 psi cruising at 3000 rpm.

I just changed my oil cause the presure was too low (new car for me 85K miles)

now its probably about 5 or 8 psi... why is mine so low?

i mean once the rpms go up it will move over but should it be that low at idle?
Idle for a stock LT1 should not ever go below 17 psi. That is by GM. I also know that Mobil 1 5-30 and other synthetics make the oil pressure lower. I don't know why that is

I switched to Havoline 10-30 and my oil pressure drastically improved. And have not lost ANY oil. It has been at the FULL mark every time. I have not had to add a drop. When I was running Mobil 1 or Amsoil, I had to add every so often. And when I sent my samples off to Blackstone Labs, my reports have been better since I switched to reg. oil.

The higher the mileage, the heavier the oil should be. I have 86k
on my 95 Z. And it is pretty heavily modded.

Another reason could be that your oil pump is starting to go. I heard low oil pressure was a sign of the oil pump dying. That is hearsay though.

Good luck

Chilton says it should be 7psi at idle. Sounds low but it's right from the books.

60-70 @ idle (when cold)
25-50 @ idle when warm

LMFAO! Thats my kind of cruising though

About Mobil 1, the funny thing is, as soon as I switched to it I noticed the low pressure and my engine developed a misterious oil leak. After I switched back, the oil pressure went up and the Leak stopped. I am still clueles about this.
