Attn: People who done the single cat conversion
I am almost complete with the single cat conversion. I am just waiting for my carsound cat to arrive. My question is would I be able to use the exhaust hanger that is located at the end of the tailshaft of the tranny? I know on the cars that came with single cat they have a exhaust hanger at the end of the cat stock I think. Any suggestions and ideas on what to do. I would greatly apprecaite it. Thanks.
I went from 97 dual cats to 93 style slp's with the cat in the factory location of a 93 car... bolts right up with the hanger they have there on the pass side, almost right under the pass door... tailshaft of tranny... its made to go there i think.
Ok, so i didn't do the single cat conversion since my car only had one cat to begin with, but i DID use a dual cat catback and had to deal with getting an Spipe which is why i opened this thread.
You should be ok without a hanger there at all. My bullet ORP has no hanger, it's very secure from the ypipe and the hangers in the rear by the muffler. Now if you clamped stuff instead of welding it then maybe that hanger would be neccessary to keep everything together.
But to really answer your question i don't know where exactly the hanger is on a dual cat car, sorry.
But according to ^ it seems like it'll work out either way.

i put AS&M headers (single cat) on my 96, i bought the single cat borla catback (with the s pipe) and an ORP, my hanger didnot line up. i just left it off the only hanger.all i have is the 2 on the rear muffler. i bolted mine together. i started having a leak on the driver's side collector recently. i think the reason is not having a hanger puts too much stress on the headers/ypipe and causes the leak...i will be getting mine fixed shortly
