I need new gears and bearings in my car, as the pinion shim spun on the gear and damgaged the pinion gear-it is a M6 and I was wondering how 4.10s would be in it. How is gas mileage, whining (if any), etc. Would 3.73s be better? I have 3.42s now.
Also: Will I'm pretty sure I'll need a re-program-how much off will the speedometer be?

If you go with 4:10's I would suggest GM gears or SLP Gears. They don't whine as bas as the others. As far as mileage it depends on what type of driver you are. I not a rowdy driver so it's not as bad, as I hear for others. Plus it helps that you have a M6

Well I have gone through 3.42's, 4.10's, and now 3.73's... I'll never put 3.73's in my car again, too damn long (im cammed too and rpm band is much higher than stock). I had richmond 4.10's and precision 4.10's. I blew up the presicions in 3 months. The 4.10's lasted 5 years on hundreds and hundreds of launches. I have presicion 3.73's now... and kick myself in the *** for not going with 4.10's.
If you are worried about mileage get a honda. Cause you are only talking a small drop in mpg if any. With Hooker LT's most the typical mods adn 4.10's I still got at LEAST 27mpg on the highway and at least 17 in the city.

I have decided to go ahead and get the 4.10 Motive gears from Thunder Racing...I don't want to buy the whole package, just the gears and the complete installation kit...but do I need the performance stud kit (that is is supposed to help keep bearing caps from walking in housing)?
I like my 4.10s but if I were to do it again I will go to 4.56 gears, only 200rpm higher than 4.10s in 6th gear, plus with the right cam there is plenty of rpm. My gas mileage does not go down compared to 3.42 unless I puch it around, then it drops quit a bit. Remember with the 4.10s you get more torque multiplication to the wheels thus if driven right the car launches easier with less gas, so gas mileage can be maintained

When i was stock i got 300 miles to a tank round town. Street racing was great then to. When i moved to the heads/cam even better but gas millage dropped off.
