ASR or Cruise Control On Drivers Valve Cover?

Ok I thought that the cruise was on the drivers valve cover, but I was on delteqs website looking at the opti replacement and it says that its the ASR. If its the ASR what do I have to do to remove it? I really don't want traction control and it looks like crap and I'd rather have the coil packs there than on the fan shroud.

Please fill me in and I'm sorry if I put this in the wrong forum, but it is LT1 related

Its the ASR on the valve cover. The cruise control module is on the driver's side frame rail, near the front sway bar bushing bracket.

Ok thanks. Do you know how to disable it or do I have to have it tuned out?

From what I've been told, you need to get a non-asr throttle cable and switch them out. But you will then have your a.b.s. disabled as well, so both the a.b.s. and the a.s.r. lights on your dash will be illuminated. I guess it can be tuned so the lights are off, but I don't think you will have functional a.b.s. I've got the same peice of crap sittin over my valve cover too and have been debating on what to do.

I did some searching and I don't think it will effect the abs, but if it does I really don't care since mine will be gone before too long anyway.

The cables that you need are....
Throttle Cable - 12550676
Cruise Cable - 12550719

And hopefully you can still get them from GM and I'll find out tomorrow. And I'll let you know if it effects the abs or not when I get that ugly thing off my valve cover.

You know what, it may not affect you since you have obd1... I've got obdII, so I'd get the abs light, not you. Let me know how it works out for ya.

yeah I forgot about that, mabye it was the obd1 cars aren't effected and the obd2 are. I don't know, but if I can get both cables I'll be good to go, but gmpartsdirect.com doesn't list the 12550719, well its listed but you can't add it to your cart mabye my dealer will be able to get it though. I'll let you know how it works out

Well I have some good news, but it might not be for anyone else planning to do this to their car. You can still get the throttle cable form GM but the cruise cable is discontinued but my parts guy is pretty cool and he knows a guy that knows a guy and so on and he made a few calls and I'll have my cruise control cable by Friday. I got both cables for $50 so that huge ugly thing on my valve cover will be gone this weekend.

So if you are planning on doing this down the road you might want to give your dealer a call and see if he can locate a cruise cable for you.

Question

I want to get rid of traction control on my car also! (See signiture for car info). Evidently GM does NOT carry the P/N 12554852 throttle cable I need anymore. Does anyone have either a new GM part number for a '97 non TC throttle cable......or maybe and aftermarket supplier's part number for this?

Thanks!
