ASP U/D Pulley = belt slinger/shreader.

It's been a while since I posted. I got a ASP "sammich" pulley. Looks nice enough, but once I got it on it was warped and kept slinging and destroying belts.

Putting it on, it was like the whole thing was too small. First, the concave part that the hub goes, as well as the part the that goes into the balancer wasn't just tight, but beyond that, it was too small. It was tough enough just getting it lined up, and was not easy going in, didn't go right. Being an autotech I've pressed a lot of parts, and even if it's tight, when you have it lined up and start pressing, you know when it's going right. I torque it evenly on bolts. This, it wouldn't go right. I finally get it on the hub, install the hub, five minutes later it has taken a rib off the belt, then throws it. I look underneath and the ribs are clearly not rotating evenly. It seems as though the grooves were not machined correctly and so they wobble.

I've been told before to stay away from the crappy sandwitch type pullies. Alumimum between two steel/iron parts doesn't make much sence anyways. The waste of money wasn't as bad as being on th side of the road trying to get what was left of the belt on the pulley to make it home, and then having to do this a few times to get home.

IOW: I do not recomend this product.

yea i would stay away from those parts. i may be wrong but i thought if you get a smaller pulley you need a shorter belt to drive properly. if there wasn't the correct tension on the belt that could be why it wasn't staying straight and getting sliced. if it was in the daytime when this happened you can drive the car without the belt on, you just wont have any of the accesories. i wouldn't recommend driving very far w/o it because it's also the source of the power to your water pump.

all in all, if you were having that much trouble getting it on, i would've taken that as a sign that something was not machined correctly and would have sent it back as a faulty item and attempted to save myself time and money. anyway, good luck-i hope you find a good pulley (or go back to stock?)

I used a smaller belt, tension was proper. Of course, the belt slung off at night, and I have an Electric W/P, so that really drew down on the battery. Thank goodness for a Optima. Well, I'm going back to stock. Selling the car. I've had it about a year, driven it about 600 miles total. Paying too much money to store it.
