ARP header bolts too short??

About to slap on some Pacesetter long tubes with Percy's aluminum header gaskets. A friend told me that my ARP 3/4" stainless steel header bolts (400-1201) were going to be too short to install correctly. Anybody have this set up and had trouble?

3/4 worked out great for me. 1" are more desirable, but 3/4 are perfectly fine.

What he said, however I feel the 1" bolts allow you to torque the headers down harder with much less risk of stripping bolt holes.

use the 1" bolts. On some headers the flange is thicker and the 3/4" bolts just dont catch enough thread to keep a reliable clamp on the gasket.

Re: ARP header bolts too short??

I ditched the 3/4" bolts I bought and used the ones that came with the Pacesetters. THe 12pt bolts are hard as hell to put in since they only allow a wrench. The 6pt pacesetter's were longer, AND you could use the open end of the wrench since they were only 6pt.

I heard the pacesetters rust a bit over time, but what doesnt. I torqued mine down and never had one break. I was satisfied with the Pacesetters, but completely disregarded the 12pt ARP 3/4" bolts.

They worked like a Palsy victim doing brain surgery with a pipe wrench.

You should use 1".More threads are better.

I originally had those and I didn't like the way they were biting so I used the 1" bolts that Pacesetter supplied.
