arp head stud torque question
arp head stud torque question
its sais you can torque them to 85#s with oil whats the difference and is it better to torque them to 85#s i installed one of the heads today and torqued it to 85 #s and on the final pass it felt like they were about to snap kinda scary so i only did one side. should i pull them all apart check the threads and put it to 65?
Don't tightened the stud down into the threads. Bottom them out then back them off 1/4 to 1/2 turn. As long as you are using the correct tightening sequence and doing it in stages I would torque them to ARP's recommended value with the given thread lubricant.
could i have hurt anything im real anxious to get back and rip the head off i feel like an ******* cause i have done more serious things to an engine before and i feel like i may have destroyed something while doing this. is it possible to "squash" the head or would the be considered warped?
Did you follow the tightening sequence? I don't know what you would have done incorrectly if you followed that. Did you start at a low torque across the head then move up 2 or 3 more steps till the final pass at 85#?
I guess I'm not seeing what you would have destroyed
edit: Did you tighten them light this?

yea i followed the proper torquing sequence i've put heads on before but never with studs or at 85#s and it felt kinda scary torquing them to that much im gonna pull the head off when i get out of work tomorrow and check the studs then probly re torque them to 65 inStead of 85 i guess i thought i may have hurt something by over tightening
