ARP Head bolt torque specs

Bought mine used and don't know what the final torque spec is suppose to be...I have heard 65 ft/lbs but I want to confirm. I intend on using Permatex high temp thread sealant and 10w-30 on the heads.

Also when doing the 3 stage torque process, can I get all the bolts down to the point where are like 1 cm from touching the head using a regular wrench, then start the 3 torque sequence? Or is the 3 stage sequence started right when you begin? Seems like it would take forever.

You snug all the bolts down in sequence, then start your torque sequence.

Nice chart ,Rich.
Just make sure you look at the torque specs . They are different depending upon what you use. ARP moly vs. SAE 30. That chart shows the difference in torque specs.

Well I dont know what the tensil stength is, and I think the bolts are 7/16's right? That means 80ft/lbs? Somethings not right. I don't think that chart takes in consideration aluminum heads either.

The specs are fastener specific and would not vary with the type of head. Use the 170-180,000psi column for head bolts or studs. The more exotic (stronger) materials are used for rod bolts, in general.

I just tightened mine three days ago. ARP says 75 ft/lbs if using 30 weight oil and 65 ft/lbs if using their moly assembly lube. I used ARP teflon thread sealer and went to 70 ft/lbs. The instructions gave no option for the teflon stuff.

Well I initially went to 65, then went back over and up to 75. That chart suggest 80.

I did 70 lb/ft on the top bolts and 65 on the bottom row.

Proper lubing of the bolts is more than just thread sealant on the threads, it's also lubing the washer and bottom of the bolt head. If these are dry, it will cause more friction to torque the bolt giving you a false torque reading.
