ARP Head Bolt Question
I am wondering what kind of sealer I should use on my head bolts... The ARP instructions say 65 ft lb with their sealer and 85 w/30 wt oil. 85 seems kind of high with aluminum heads and all doesn't it (even though it bolts onto the block)? The headbolts look like they have oil on them already. What kind of sealers would work?

I think it depends on which bolt the technique you use. I read somewhere about putting sealer on the ones that go near (maybe in) the water jackets, and oil on the others. Don't quote me, but run a search and post back here. Then everyone can know. I'll run a search as well. Take care and good luck.

Wow, my winter project is EXACTLY like yours except for the your cam is one step above mine. I am going with the XE 224/230...

Why not just use the ARP Teflon sealer on all of them, and bolt them in per spec (of course, torquing them down in steps, not 65 ft/lbs all at once, lol).

Yeah I'm sure any sealer w/ teflon will be the same as arp's. So whatever you find first. Yeah you can always use it on all of them. I just thought I remembered hearing it somewhere (maybe it was the guy at ramchargers) that said some needed the teflon sealant stuff, and others needed assembly lube, and that determined what spec you needed to put them in at. As long as you install them in the correct order using the correct sequential tightening method recommended, I'm sure you'll be fine. How far are you in your project by the way? I have a fellow board member coming over today and we're taking off the hub, heads, and all the timing stuff and what not (yeah it's early). Good luck with yours!
