Arcing wires?

Got an issue with my LT1, I can drive for about half an hour fine, no issues, a little over half an hour and stop and go traffic, the car starts missing real bad, popping and backfiring and jerking. Almost feels like an arcing wire or two or three. I don't think the wires are new, don't look it, but it is a new crate LT1. No SES light is on, sound like wires hopefully, or opti spark?

Thanks

Heat affected parts could be ICM, coil, opti, PCM (more remote possibility) and any wire connections that are not clean and tight. Scan for codes, anyway and PLEASE post at least the year of your car when wanting help. The signature is a good place to put info.

Its a 94 trans am, is there any way for me to check the codes without going to the dealer? Still no ses light on though, just hope it isbly the opti. When its not acting up it runs great, but I believe there are over 100k miles on the wires. I have already replaced the coil and ign module too.

Thanks for the help

Auto Zone or Advance Auto will scan your codes for free.

Start with the basics, and the simplest things first. Pull the plug wires while its running and see if the engine changes its idle with the wires off. Years ago I built an engine for my pickuo, and use cheap wires. Started pulling wires and ended up replacing them. Due to the summer heat, underhood temp, and the air cond. If it is wires, buy the best that you can. They pay for themselves, by lasting years instead of months. I always wipe my plugs with alcahol so there is no oil from my hands on them.

Not a 1994. They only scan OBD-II cars.

just got done replacing the wires, took about a hour, drivers side was easy, passenger side wasn't too bad, no freon in the AC, so I dropped the compressor to do the passenger side. Just got the Autozone wires, just ot see if it helps, no need in spending big money on wires, won't be keeping the opti for too much longer. They've done fine on all of my other cars. I will let ya'll know how it goes tommorrow.

Wires did not help. It seems if I don't let it get over half way on my temp gauge, then it will be fine, but as usual, about a half hour into my daily commute, where I always hit traffic, it starts. My biggest thing is spending the money and time on a new opti, especially if this isn't the issue. When its not acting up, first bit of driving during the day, it runs awesome, no issues. Can the opti be intermittent like that? Any other ideas?

Thanks
