My car has pushing 170k miles on the odometer, the guy i bought it from said it had a "new engine" put in it at 130k. He wouldnt give any details and said the previous owner had done it.

Im going to be doing a cam install in the near future, as was curious if there was anyway i might beable to tell if the engine had been overhauln, or a new one install, or anything at all.

The car seems to run strong, and certainly dosent burn oil or act like an engine with 170k. There are signs that the engine has been out of the car, or the tranny dropped atleast. Could i run the VIN or any other ideas of checking into this?

Maybe check the diameter of the cylinders with a caliper to see if it's been bored 30 over or so. Kinda of a PITA but that's the only the only way I know of.

 

Maybe do a Compression Check?

I dunno either...
