Anything wrong with changing oil every 1k miles?

Ever since I was little I can remember my dad always changing the oil in our cars every 1000 miles. On most of my cars I've stuck to this for some reason, oil is pretty cheap, and having fresh oil in there can't hurt. Now I read about you guys going for more than 3 times the distance before changin it out. Is it worth it to change it that often? I changed my Z over to Mobil 1, and I've only put on a little over 2k since buying it in 2001. My beater Escort though I've owned for over 3 years and I've changed the oil 3 times. It just wont die. I want the motors (in my nice cars) to last, but I don't want to be wasting money on oil and filters. I do think I'll let the Z get to around 2k before I'll change it again, but that could be a couple of years.

No thing wrong with that... Just might get a little costly.

I'm not sure changing it the often will be anymore helpful as opposed to changing it say every 2k miles.

For as often as you drive your car I would say you are doing it right.

Changing the oil and filter every 1k miles won't hurt the car, but it is a waste of time, money and oil. Changing the oil that often is simply not necessary.

Well why not. Cleaner is better.

Your engine won't last any longer than if you had been changing the oil every 5000 miles (if it's synthetic).

Poke around here for a while:

...and read some of the used oil analysis reports. You'll clearly see that changing synthetic oil sooner than 5000 miles is simply a complete waste of money in most cases, since it's nowhere near worn out and in many cases has almost zero contaminents in it.

its advised in my handbook to replace oil every 3k OR 3 months. if you are putting 2k on the car in one year, change the oil every thousand miles.

Nothing really wrong with it, but if a car is running OK it doesn't really start to get bad until around 3800 miles or so, depending on environment, running conditions, and again the quality of the oil.

Sometimes I change it early anyway, especially if you race the car. I like Quaker State Semi Synth, tests out great, its about .05% worse in wear tests than Mobil 1 which is overrated from the testing I've seen, especially since it costs more than twice as much.
