Anyone whose had a bad lifter(or knows about them), please come in.

Ok...My rocker arm nut keeps loosening up, ive replaced both the stud and the nut, I even have 2 nuts on there right now(both "self locking" nuts)...and the rocker arm still loosens up when i turn it on..when i tighten down the nut it shuts up temporarily though, only to loosen up later. Someone in another thread said its prolly a collapsed or weak lifter, does this sound right? I jes wanna get a few suggestions before I take apart the intake.

Thank you

the nuts are naturally eliptical and in my opinion wear out over time. Try to buy a new rocker with ball and nut and see if that fixes it. They are stock, right?

Correct, stock. You mean buy a new rocker arm with the lil "ball" like you said that sits down inside of it under the nut?

And I just put a brand new nut on there, so I dont think I need a new one already, cause that didnt fix my problem.

yep, if you go to carquest or autozone you can buy a new one and it will come with all of that for like 8-10 bucks. Much easier to try this first.

Actaully I have a set of 1.6 RR"s under my bed. They do not have polylocks though, jes the regular nuts and ball like the stock ones do. Should I try to put those on there and see if that works?

Also would it be bad to just put one on the one that keeps coming loose jes to see if that works, or should I put them all on at the same time? Thanks

it wouldn't hurt anything, but they may not fit with the stock valve covers. You're cars gonna fell choppy...

Is the nut really getting loose or is it that you just hear too much lash on the rocker. I'll put my money on bad lifter.

I have a deep down feeling you're right. I dont see the nut getting any looser, it jes starts making more noise and clicking.

This is the RR's I was thinking of throwing on there

http://www.flatlanderracing.com/prolinetiprockers.html

Its the RKS-350A1.6
As you can see in teh picture, it doesnt look like I can use Polylocks..mine obviously came with the same self locking nuts.

Luckily I have 16 lifters sitting in my room, so looks like time to pull the intake huh?

I didn't even think of this before, but just use one of the nuts for the roller rockers. Thats a good way to find out. By the way if it is a lifter than throw those babies on there while you have it apart.

If the nut is not actually loosening (and I think you have replaced the stud), that pretty much leaves a cracked rocker arm or bad lifter as choices. Those are roller tipped rockers, not full roller rockers. They use the stock nuts because the portion that goes over the stud is of the same ball design that the stock rockers are. Full roller rockers have a needle bearing trunion that fits over the stud and allows less friction. Because of the barrel shaped design of the trunion, they normally use the "poly" locks.

Ok, I took off the stock rocker arm and looked at it, but not REALLY well. I didnt see anything wrong with it. I guess ill throw on those roller tip rockers and see if that helps out any. If it still backs off, then it would be lifter I guess

I just don't see a lifter going bad.... it can happen, but I am gonna have to guess on the bolt working loose... I would try some locking nuts for your rockers.
