I have a friend with a 94 trans am. He has the 2.73s and so first gear is not available to him. He asked me if I could make 1st gear available. I told him I had heard that you need to cut some plastic under the console. He wants me to do it now and I just want to know how is it done? Is it just a small piece of plastic that can be cut easily? It would be great id someone told me were to cut it. Thanks a lot for your help.

 

Pop off the console. You'll see a little rubber stopper. Just remove it, and voila, 1st gear select.

 

I used a hacksaw blade to cut mine. Just pull the part around the shifter off, set the parking brake, then pull the shifter back and you'll see where it hits.
