Anyone using PROBE pistons?

im on a really tight TwinTurbo Budget build. And these pistons are almost half the price of the brand names. I just havent heard of them before.

Probe has a good rep. Never used them however. Funny to hear TT and budget in the same breath though

yeah ive heard that alot, but im out to prove it can be done with engine mods for under 2k.

2 turbos
intercooler
fuel pump
fmu
injectors
8.9 comp.
3 bar map
etc.......

and all the stock stuff im going to be selling. it will be subtracted from the total cost.

I bough the car with a blown head gasket so i had to pull the motor anyway.

You'll need to buy piston rings in addition to the Probe pistons. A good set of rings is around $100 bucks or more.

I don't see the Probes being a lot cheaper than other brands like SRP or KB

Which Probe piston in particular are you looking at that will work will with your turbo combo?

Another budget piston to look at, (but not an all out tubo piston) would be the Mahle powerpak piston/ring sets.
SBC425030I26 $559 for example, or ---
SBC125030I16 $559 at flatlander racing.

Probe has GOOD stuff. I have been using their stuff for 15 years.

Mahle has some new deep dishes for their powerpack. -16 and -26cc I believe. There's a recent thread about it. They come with the rings IIRC.

I have no doubt it can be done, but how well will it perform? If it does well people will be virtually beating your PM box down on how you did it.

Tolerances were spot on out of the box.

Probe is big with the mustang guys..

Mustang buddy has probe forged pistons in his blown GT. Held for a few years till the stock block started cracking.. still going strong in new stock block .. been run with ~15psi.

I am not saying Probe is bad, I really know nothing about them.
I just want to point you back at quickSS post about you need to consider the whole package. Buying individual items because they initially apprear cheaper than the kit is a very common way to endup spending more than you intended.

this forum has been very helpful, so i wont mind any questions, if i get it right. I know i want PCM4less to do the reprogram.

I just bought my second matching turbo today off ebay $69 ship included, i wont tell you guys which kind, untill i see how they work.
Just to keep the HAHAHAHAHHAH posts from coming. its not china crap though.

Im sure that its just going to be an expensive experiment. but i lost my DL and have time to kill. (street racing is not cool anymore)

You have giant ***** running a homeade FI set-up with a mail order tune IMO. I would take it to a dyno before I drove it much.

That is a good price for the budget forged piston. I thought you were looking at the sportsman race series (SRS) Probe piston which is more money.

If it's a goal to do this with the least money then this forged piston and moly ring kit is even cheaper than your Probe choice with rings.

5 houses down from mine is, a good friend of mine, he has a mustang mobile dyno.http://www.suddenperformance.com/
but he will just give me a dyno sheet. For Free. Im a cheap ba$tard. if you couldnt tell already.

oh lots of fun so far. i listened to my old man who told me we should pull the motor from the top.(motor has never been out.) those freakin trans bolt were on soooooo tight. I almost broke both wrists getting them loose. and it took a few days.
For others who read this please drop the K member.
Im pretty confident that it will work. Ive done about 1yr of research on turbo systems.
Mail order tune.....anythoughts
I have gotten wonderful feed back about PCM4less
