Anyone using the Autozone clutch kit?

My clutch is really on its last leg and I dont have a tun of money right now to dump in one of those $400 clutch kits. Autozone has a kit with pressure plate, disk and TB for $199 with a lifetime warrenty. Just wondered if anyone else has tried it and what they thought.. I know its going cheep right now but thats about all I can afford at the moment and it only has to last me a couple years. Heck its lifetime warrenty, who cares how long it lasts.. I have used the zones clutches on other vehicles without a problem but they went behind a 300+ hp motor either..

TIA
Craig

i am curious as well. Orileys has a deal for about the same price! They are cheap but they get the job done.

I did a search after I posted this and not much information on how people liked them, I did read however that they use a LT4 pressure plate.. Interesting.. guess I'll be the ginny pig..

I have it and it works really good. Although my stock one wasn;t worn out, I replaced it anyway and there isa huge difference. For the price, I don't think you can beat it. I got mine for $199 too.

im using the clutch kit from advanced auto (prolly the same one) and it held up for about a year with a bunch of passes launching @ 3500-4000 rpms.

but last sunday i tried to leave @ 5K and the car didnt move. it might have been a combanation of my 2nd gear burnouts and the high rpm launch on drag radials. it seems to be holding fine now i have gone out and beat on it a few times. i guess i need to pull it apart and check it out.

Well if it held up to that for a year, I should be ok with a DD that goes to the track maybe 4 times a year.

Thanks for your input notstock4long, I'm going to give it a shot.

after inspecting two autozone clutches and then buying a valeo clutch (the OEM manufacturer), i can pretty safely say they are the same thing, the autozone clutch is a lt4 pressure plate with a stock lt1 disc, both are clearly stamped valeo and appear identical to the valeo set i got.

I used one on a L98/T56 setup and it seems to be just fine.

Cool... that's something good to know if you're in a pinch for a clutch fast.

I can actually get them for $160+tax. So I'm even better off... working at AutoZone they give you a little discount.

GO FOR IT DUDE.... i lived by that clutch and lifetime warranty for awhile... till my car got to the point where it would just slip when i got on it... kick *** clutch for a pretty good modded car... it wont handle too much nitrous though depending on what kinda mods you have etc...

definately go for it though.. it's basically just the exact same stock clutch that comes in our cars from the factory... $hit for $199 and free replacements if it ever breaks you can't go wrong

I have the Advance kit, but I think they're the same. Mine is the LT4 plate and stock disk. They price matched Autozone, so it was $199 with a lifetime warranty. Mine's great so far.

After that one gets to the point it doesn't work anymore, I suggest replacing the disk with a Mcleod disk. This has been used a lot in my local club and seems to work really good even behind 400rwhp motors. The clutch disk is is $135, so for $335 total you can't beat that clutch

to previous poster,

Or you keep running the az cheapie one until it just quits grabbing and then order the mcleod clutch disk when your reach high rwhp levels. Once your disk arrives go to "the zone" and swap out your clutch assembly for a new one and then your new clutch disk is getting put in with new components. For the price of the mcleod disk only, and you've been saving money with the LLT warrenty while the AZ clutch has been sufficient.
