I did up til the last oil change and had no problems. Then I ran half a can of seafoam through the crankcase and oiling system for about 50 miles ebfore changing the oil and switching to a thicker synthetic.

Pennzoil 10w30 @ 94,000 miles. Does it like it?...It went 12.82 last year with a completely stock motor.

Pennzoil 5W30 in mine, runs like a raped ape with 115,--- on the clock. Doesn't burn a drop of oil, might leave a teeny tiny spot of oil on the driveway once in awhile, but I'm not concerned with it.

Actually high mileage motors might not like synthetic oil. The molecules in synthetic oil are smaller, and might cause oil consumption passing by the rings on a engine with high mileage.

So if you use synthetic and notice oil consumption, then swith back.

I never have used synthetic oil and got 370k on my last buick 3800

I use Castrol 10/50 in my z28 that has approx 208,000 miles. Bottom end is original. No leaks, no consumption, still runs like new!

I'm running Valvoline Max-Life 5w 30. The car has 98k on it. No leaks or oil consumption.

Napa oil, on every car I've ever had, all with high miles, never an internal engine failure. I wonder if all these spun bearings everyone is having on this board is related to synthetic oil?

Probably not. If you use a good 5w30 synthetic for instance, it remains a 5w30 for well over 5000 miles or more. Put a 5w30 dino oil into your engine and it'll turn into a 10w20 oil in less than 2000 miles. Which of those two do you think will protect your bearings under hard use?

Conventional oils can get long life out of normal vehicles, but IMO, if you're going to drive it hard, and especially if you're going to drive in extreme cold, you'll get longer engine life with synthetics. (or with a good blend like Schaeffer Oil)

I thought you asked for high mileage cars . I've got 230K miles and I used nothing but Valvoline 5W-30 since day one every 3,000 miles. I recently had to replace the cam shaft and lifters because one of the rollers developed a chip in the roller surface. The engine looks like new inside with no wear or sludge. I love Valvoline! I also have a 94 Blazer with 190K miles and it is in the same condition.

I have friend who works for Mobil and knows the chemists who developed Mobil 1. He says he uses nothing else and that Mobil 1 is the best. I don't see the benefit for the extra cost.

By the way, I have had to replace the Opti twice (about every 100K miles) and it is a piece of junk. Chevy traded a throw away rotor and cap for a throw away distributor.
