The full up shift valve might not help in this situtation since it is for the 3/4 up shift. GM did not want up shift on 3/4 since the plates get heated to fast on a WOT upshift and then they are fried. How often are you really going to shift from 3-4 at WOT. You will get going over 100mph and you want a WOT upshift.

I would rather have my tranny last. As he stated above you might have already started getting symtoms of weak 3/4 clutches.

Look at the website as I said. Scroll down a long time and you will see the upshift valve and whatever else you think might cure your problems or meet your needs.

My car ran consistant 12.0's @112 MPH last season...manually upshifting through all 4 gears I had 4.10's in the car, at the time...And I was on my 6200 RPM shiftlite about 75 Ft. before the stripe. I used 4th to keep the R's down.

Then again, I build racing transmissions for a living, so I know mine was capable of handling what I was putting it through.

Did you install a shift kit of any kind? If you did a "Trans-Stop", you've probably fried the 3-4 clutches.

I didn't do the shift kit myself. It was done by a local tranny shop. The trans has upgraded/heavy duty parts. I know I was able to shift manually before I blew up the motor a year ago. The only thing that has changed since then is the governor. I do have the option to go to a full manual tranny but I really don't want to have to shift all the time.

Mine is still an automatic. I drive the car quite a bit, so I like to be able to just leave it in drive while cruising.

Besides...There is only ONE reputable manufactuerer of a manual 700 valvebody, and that's TCI. The problem is, it's a reverse manual pattern. Who's shifter are we supposed to use? The Pro Stick can be converted with a 4 speed gate plate, but it's a standard forward pattern. Please...Nobody mention the Megashifter...We're talking race cars here

Frank, where are your shift points? If you leave the trans in drive, where does it shift?

I manually shift at 6200 RPM's. If I leave it in drive, it shifts about 57-5800 at WOT.

What I can't understand is why the car would shift at 6000 on the 1-2 but won't shift on the 2-3. If the govenor is just for part throttle shifts, what controls full throttle operation and why can I not shift manually?

I think you're still overlooking the fact that there may be a problem with the 3-4 clutches

Re: Anyone switched from 4l60e to 700r4. Have questions

I know this is a pretty old post but I do have a couple more questions. When I had my 4l60e, my converter would go into lockup in 3rd gear under WOT. Now, with the 700r4, lockup only occurs in 4th. What would I have to do have my converter locking back up in 3rd, since this seems to have costed me a couple mph in the 1/4 mile?

Earlier 700's have pressure ports on the valvebody for a 3rd or a 4th pressure switch. If your valvebody is drilled and tapped for a 3rd gear switch, you'll probably find a pipe plug in it. If this is the case, it's as simple as adding a n/o switch (same as the 4th switch) to the 3rd port, and running your wires in series.
Late 700 valvebodies aren't drilled for 3rd, though. Any competant transmission shop should be able to do a valvebody swap that will take care of the problem, though. You do, however, still have to make sure that it's a valvebody that's compatable with your transmission. What year is yours? Is it a non-auxillary valvebody unit, or an auxillary unit? Swapping valvebodies on 700's can get a little complicated if you're not sure what to look for, as they have to match the seperator plate also.
Early auxillary valvebodies have provisions for 3 switches on the rear of the valvebody. One is for a 4th switch, one for a "4-3" pulse switch, and one for a 3rd switch. The 4th and 4-3 pulse switches are very close to eachother, with the 4-3 pulse raised slightly higher. They're on the rear/passenger side of the valvebody. The 3rd switch is all by itself, on the rear/drivers side of the valvebody.
