Anyone with SLP headers?
My passenger cat started rattling at idle before I bought the headers.
No one ever tested my cars for emissions during the yearly safety inspections for the last 6 years.
The factory pipe has a lot of reverb when backing off the throttle at speed. The Random pipe seemed much more elegant compared to the freaky factory setup.
Installing it was very simple.
I ran the 2 cat pipe with the stock exhaust manifolds for 6 months before having a great mechanic install the headers in 5 hrs.
The car has a nice ring to the exhaust at anything over mild throttle now even with a stock 98 SS muffler I put in because I wanted the car quiet at cruise just lika a citizen mobile.
With the TPS Throttle enhancer which gives full advance and fuel delivery at 70% throttle the exhaust sings all the way up to the red line.
My car is a 97 and now has over 90,000 miles and soon will be 100,000.
I believe that as long as I have 2 functioning cats of any kind that pass emissions I'm legal seeing as the car is over 5 years old and over 90,000 miles. I have Autotap so I can scan my car if it throws any codes.
So if you're worried about emissions legality look at the rules more carefully especially for higher mileage engines. All LT1's are now 6 years old or older.
If I had to do it all over again I'd probably get midlenths with dual cats and pipes cause the shorties and random cat y pipe cost $1150.00 new, so for only a little more one can buy a complete midlength system less cat back from ASM or some other suppliers.
But this is an SLP post so I'm pretty happy with my setup and don't want to spend a thousand or more for something different. It all bolted in with no welding or leaks with the supplied gaskets.
