i have heard this as well, have never seen this in person but heard many accounts of it. although i think this is just a case of neglect, not changing the oil will def cause this

belive it or not i have seen worse on 50k engines. i had one car i pulled the valve covers off because the customer was complaining of smoking and the fudge was so deep you could hardly see the cams. (it was an overhead cam car) comes from neglect and penzoil. i swaer by penoil. i swear it will ruin an engine.

perhaps its not the oil or lack of changing alone i wonder if short trips around town never really getting it heated will help that kind of grime in an engine

all i know is that my car sees a good 700 mile round trip every month or so when i go home and the inside of my engine is completely spotless after 110,000 miles seriously pull a valve cover and it looks as though the heads have been on the engine for 10 minutes the casting is so clean and bright, i should really snap of pic of it

When I worked at penzoil we had plenty of "women" come in that went 30k or more on an oil change and thought it was no big deal. When we would run a cleaner or engine flush it would come out in chunks and actually stop flowing at times.Once drainded though we would pump oil into it without the plug untill it came out clean. Never really heard of to many problems after the flush.I had a 350 given to me out of a 76 chevy and when I put new seals in it it looked the same as that.I knew the person who owned the truck I got it from and they never changed the oil just added to it when it was low,So I wouldn't blame it on the oil but would on the person not changing it.
Reminds me of the castrol gtx commericial."why worry about engine sludge"

I have heard of high levels of paraffin's in QS. (I forget the source) I am not sure where it comes from, but have heard bad things about QS and Pennsoil. I am no expert by means, but I usually have used M1 but now use castroil.
