Anyone Running A ZZ4 Cam?

I was wondering if there were people having good luck with stock heads and the ZZ4 cam from GM.

What did you have to modify on the cam or other things to make this cam work in an LT1?

Also, is this cam made by Crane? Where is the best place to get it from?

I have never heard of anyone running a ZZ4/3 cam in a FBody. I have heard of LT1 impalas running the ZZ3 cam. For the money you can get a much better LT1 cam. The duration and lift on the ZZ3 isnt anything impressive unless you are going from something much worse.

Well, it seems to me to be the best off the shelf cam for people who are running stock heads. I would think that it should make a more even torque curve than the HOT cam and only a few less horsepower. Plus it will have more dynamic compression.

The ZZ4 cam isn't a TPIS cam.

I will agree with you on that one. For stock heads, that cam looks like a very good match without being too harsh on the valvetrain (unlike the XEs). I believe a guy in my car club ran a 12.3 in the 1/4mile with that cam + bolt-ons + DRs, and no headwork done.

I just want to know what I'll have to do to this cam to make it work in an LT1. Things like modifying the cam dowel, etc.

Somebody has to have done this before!

Couldn't you get the cam specs and have compcams do a custom grind for you? That way you would know it would fit.
