Anyone running unported LT4s w/medium cam?
Anyone running unported LT4s w/medium cam?
As the subject says, is anyone running untouched LT4 heads w/a meduim hyd. roller? By medium, I mean XE 224/236, CC306ish etc. Anyone have any dyno/track numbers with a setup like this?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I'm thinking 375-380 rwhp would be attainable w/stock LT4s, medium hyd. roller and a good dyno tune.
Sorry for the off topic question, but what makes you not want to port them? I know a good LT1 porter in the PHX area, i have to look up where his info is, but he does good work and is very reasonably priced.

I can either port the LT1 castings I have - pay around $1200 for a local port job that may or may not be a good head. Or, I'm thinking of buying LT4s, running them stock for a while - then have them ported by a reputable porter when I build another motor. The LT4s have more potential than the LT1s and I think I can get pretty decent numbers with stock LT4s and a medium cam. It is just a thought.
Send the porter's info my way. 95bowtie@lycos.com
Thanks.

UNported LT4's with a mild valve job only
224/236 cam

368 rwhp at the woodbridge dyno (some say it's low, i have no proof of that and kind of doubt it myself).
Track times suck due to an amature driver (my cousin) on street tires. Low 12s though.
Nice tq due to the 383.
We are upgrading to ported AFRs on the 383 and my 350 is getting the LT4's after porting

Personally i would just save up and have them ported right away because then you won't be kicking yourself a week later when you get used to the power. You will also only have to swap heads once which is probably a good thing.

97 bowtie,
I do not think you can get that close to 380rwhp with stock LT4's
I know someone who has a decent port job on LT1 heads with the hot cam and a very good dyno tune. With a 6sp car he is at 370rwhp
Brandon,
Who do you know that ports heads in Phoenix?
Do you either of you guys go to the pavillions?

I think its possible,
I know one person with a 97 LT1, Stock LT4 heads, intake, CC305 cam, basic tune, made 360 rwhp..Stock bottom end..
I have a 93, they tend to react a little better to basic mods, I have all the bolt on's, gasket matched LT1 heads, CC305 cam, and I made 356 rwhp with a basic tune, and 342rwhp on a stock tune..
BTW, My car trapped 113 mph back to back on the stock tune in cold weather, ****ty launch and 13.0's to 13.3's all night..
Mph was anywhere from 111 to 113, with no better than a 2.3 60ft time.. this was on the stock tune at 342rwhp..
I deffinetly think it can be done, and I think the MPH for what you have already, making full use of traction is dead on..
Hehe, Ive rambled enough

I think 375rwhp would be the high side of hp with that setup. probably about 360rwhp. Maybe there is a formula you can use to figure it out. Marcin made high 340's with his cc306 maybe you can find a formula for the extra hp from extra flow of LT4's.
There's a member on this board with an LT4 Firehawk with stock heads and intake/full exhaust mods and rolled 360rwhp on a mustang dyno. Probably 370-380rwhp on a dynojet. Port those boogers good and 430+rwhp should be plenty possible on the stock bottom end.
I don't know if anyone here has tried the max effort LT4/CC306-ish cam route on the stock bottom end. Would be interesting to see. LS1s are hitting 450+ so we won't be too far behind I think.

I am using ported LT1's that beat the snot out of unported LT4's (as far as flow numbers are concerned) and I am at 383rwhp with old tune. I am getting a new tune this week and should be hitting the dyno. For 1000 bucks I bought all new valvetrain (2.00/1.56 valves, springs, retainers, seats, etc.) and port work by Lloyd Elliott. Bang for the buck.
