Re: Is anyone running the GM846 cam?

I really couldn't get any good info on it. I ordered it from thunder racing for $270. I did call crane up and they said I would pick up 10-12% over what my current cam is putting out, but I find it kind of hard to believe that I would pick up 35-40hp from this cam but if I do I won't be complainin. I'm hoping for atleast 20rwhp though...

Hell, I'd definately take 375-380 rwhp out of a ported H/C car. Its not even a custom grind to match the heads or anything. Good luck, I wish there was a bit more info on it, it seems like a great cam, but rare.

Yep, thats it. I thought crane just made it for gm, but they sell it under their name too.

Sounds like a good choice to me, but if you are looking for good drivability and low to mid-range power, I wouldn't get rid of the a 210/224. I believe that Crane is just trying to sell you another cam.

I'd get some "real" numbers from experienced owners before I did the switch.

Getting a bigger cam doesn't guarantee increase performance since the bigger you go the higher up the rev scale you need to go in order to get to that power and if your bottom end and other mods don't like the high revs you might be disappointed.

Looks like that cam is a 6 grand cam, just like the 210/224 so why spend all that money for so little (in my opinon) gain?

It's kind of a catch 22: The bigger the cam the higher the revs, the higher the revs, the more wear and tear on the bottom end, the more w&t on the bottom, the quicker the rebuild. Again that's just my opinon and I am dead certain that there are many more ways to kill these Lt1s.
