So what happens during high suspension travel? Your pipes are gonna get taken out.

You are full of questions tonight.

The rear end housing moves up and down independently from the body. Since the pipes are attached to the engine/body, they will not move out of the way when the springs are unloaded (like rebounding from a big bump). If they are below the rear end housing, the housing is going to smash the pipes if there is not enough clearance. That is why pipes are routed over the housing, where not enough housing travel can occur to hit the pipes. This is not to mention that the pipes would be very close to the ground, going under the rear.

I have had my true duels go under and over the axle. First over, ground clearance is not a problem at all. The only reason I changed was due to the limited travel with the suspension. I never had a problem while driving, but when I wanted to due any maintenance on the rear and I jack up the car, the rear would hang on the exhaust, and eventually broke an exhaust hanger. Got tired of this, and built an exhaust that went over the rear axle. Believe it or not, it sounds better than going under. It took some work in the tight space around it, but have no problems now. The main thing I had to change was the panhard bar. I had to build a new one so the exhaust would clear.
E-mail me and I can get you a picture of the new panhard bar that's necessary for the exhaust over the axle.

Mine were very similar, When you jack the car up though, the axle will hit the exhaust pipes when the axle is hanging.
